A LONG-standing resident of the Weymouth SEALIFE Adventure Park has celebrated a big milestone.

Johnny the Asian Short Clawed Otter turned 16 years-old on June 10, defying the average age of otters who live between the ages of 12 and 14.

To celebrate his sweet sixteen the staff members at the park presented him with a card, bunting and banners and made him his own cake from otter treats such as red meat, chicks. monkey nuts and fish.

Laura Culshaw from the adventure park said that Johnny was the oldest otter they had at their park and that he shares his home with his three sons, Badger, Cheddar, Little John and his daughter Branston, who he apparently still keeps in check.

Miss Culshaw said: "On his birthday at the 2pm feeding time we had a birthday party for him so everyone sang happy birthday to him.

"We had bunting and banners and gave him a birthday card and a cake."

Johnny was originally born in Norfolk in 1999. He was brought to the Weymouth enclosure back in 2001.

She described Johnny as active and excited on his birthday, adding that all the otters they care for as having a cheeky personality.

However, she said that they have also developed a good relationship with the staff, responding when their names are called and crying out to them when their feeding time comes around.
