A CONCERT was held in St Mary's Church, Weymouth to raise funds for The Thomas Fowell Buxton Society.

Sixty people attended and were entertained by classical musical pianists, Duncan Honeybourne and Katherine Lam, who provided a double bill playing selections music by Schubert, Faure, Moeran and Rachmaninov.

The Thomas Fowell Buxton Society was founded in 2010 by people in Weymouth to celebrate the achievements of one of its most illustrious MPs, Sir Thomas Fowell Buxton.

He served as MP for Weymouth and Melcombe Regis and lead Parliament for the Abolition of Slavery in collaboration with William Wilberforce as well as making significant prison reforms.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Christine James who is also the honorary President and her attendant consort, Trisha Chorley. James Buxton, a descendent of Sir Thomas Fowell Buxton thanked Duncan Honeybourne and Katherine Lam for their flawless performance and spearheaded the raffle for the evening.

The money raised will be put towards the monument to be erected at Bincleaves Green in honour of Thomas Fowell Buxton and the evening helped raise more than £800.
