TWO huge hills and 100 miles of cycling won’t stop one keen rider from raising money for charity.

Charlie McCaig, 54, will be taking on the Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 on August 2. The 100-mile course takes in the cycling route used in the Olympic Games in 2012. It goes through the capital and put into Surrey’s countryside.

Mr McCaig will be riding the event this year for Kidney Research UK. He said it was a cause close to his heart as several members of his family had suffered kidney problems.

He said: “This year I am completing this event to raise money for this special charity, we have all had families, friends and I have personally experienced kidney related health issues, both past and present.

“Kidney Research UK is the largest funder dedicated to research into the causes and prevention of kidney disease and has been going since 1961.

“The money it raises goes directly into research to find better treatments and ultimately a cure to help over three million people in the UK at risk of chronic kidney disease.”

Mr McCaig has been training hard and last weekend did a 61 mile practice ride around Wareham, Winterbourne Abbas and Dorchester – burning 3,500 calories in a day.

But there will definitely be some challenges on the course, including two steep, long hills at 50 and 65 miles.

Mr McCaig said: “There are two big hills – Leith Hill and Box Hill. They call Box Hill the zig-zag hill. It goes round a big corner and zig-zags round.”
