THE performance time for the Red Arrows at this year’s Weymouth Carnival has now been announced.

Following months of uncertainty, the Red Arrows were confirmed in May and a performance time has now been confirmed.

The Red Arrows will be coming to the Carnival at 3pm on Wednesday, August 19.

It has also been confirmed that the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will be returning to the Carnival this year.

With funding issues casting doubts over the Red Arrows performing at the show, the Weymouth BID paired up with local businesses the Dorset Cake Company and the Fantastic Sausage Factory to cover the cost of the display.

After reading in the Echo that the carnival committee won’t be able to afford the Red Arrows the two businesses pledged half of the money if the BID would come up with the other half.

Their performance will come as a relief to the carnival team with the Red Arrows many people’s carnival highlight.

Chairman and trustee of Weymouth Carnival and Events Club, Ryan Hope is looking forward to seeing the Arrows perform.

He said: “We’re really pleased the Red Arrows can join on the 19th August at Weymouth Carnival.

“The Reds are the icing on the cake when it comes to carnival.

3pm was the latest time they could come as they have a second display later in the day at Plymouth.

“As well as the Reds we will also have the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.”

The announcement of a time slot will allow people to plan their day to try and make sure they get down and enjoy the show.

The carnival team admitted that the time isn’t ideal but hope that people can come down for the Red Arrows and the procession which will start from the ferry terminal car park at 6.30pm.

Carnival deputy chairman, Lee Arsmstrong, who is in charge of the procession said: “Although the timing isn't ideal for everyone we hope that people will come for the whole day and stay to watch what is already looking to be bigger and better procession than previous years."

Entries are still open for the carnival procession with insurance available for just £15 through the carnival.

People can apply online to enter the procession at www.weymouthcarnival.co.uk/procession.
