COUNCILLORS will hold a special meeting to discuss the newly adopted west Dorset, Weymouth and Portland Local Plan.

Weymouth and Portland Borough Council's policy development committee will meet on Monday, September 7 to discuss the plan.

The meeting will be held in Committee Room One at the council's North Quay offices from 6.30pm.

The Joint Local Plan, which will shape the future of development in the area, was given the green light to go forward for adoption earlier this month.

It comes after an examination by planning inspector Paul Crysell, who initially asked for further work to be done on the plan and held a number of public hearings last year but has now found the plan to be sound.

It sets out a long-term planning strategy for the area up until 2013 including detailed policies and site proposals for housing, employment, leisure and infrastructure.

The plan will also go before the borough council's executive committee and West District Council's executive committee in September and October before being considered for adoption at full council meetings in October.

The inspector’s report is available at dorsetforyou.com/InspectorsReport/West/Weymouth and can be viewed at the both South Walks House in Dorchester and North Quay offices in Weymouth.
