A BIT of loose change certainly added up as a Dorchester store was able to hand over £1,000 to a local cancer charity.

Over the past three years customers at the Londis shop in Monmouth Road have been popping their pennies and other loose change into the Fortuneswell Cancer Trust collection box on the counter.

Through those small donations the store was able to raise £1,000 for the charity, which supports cancer patients at Dorset County Hospital.

Sue Thompson, honorary secretary of the Fortuneswell Cancer Trust, received the donation from store manager Ian Jones.

She said: "All the money which has been given benefits local people undergoing cancer treatment at the Dorset County Hospital.

"We really do thank all the Londis customers and we also say a big thank you to the staff at the shop who look after the collecting box on our behalf."

Mr Jones added: "Londis feels that the Cancer Trust is a very worthwhile cause and our staff are pleased to help in any way they can.

"Our customers have been great with their donations and we are so pleased to see that the money has been raised in a relatively short time."
