A MUM has said there are ‘no words’ to describe her gratitude after a stranger stepped in to replace her daughter’s bike after it was stolen.

Kerry Baker, who lives on Portland, woke up on Thursday morning to find that her eight-year-old daughter, Ellia McCann’s, eight, bike had been stolen.

Kerry then put out an appeal on Facebook for people to keep an eye open for the bike.

After a mutual friend shared the post, Darren Hunt got in touch with Kerry to say that he would buy Ellia a new bike.

Darren then headed to Halfords to pick out a bike before delivering to Kerry and Ellia.

Kerry said that should could not describe her gratitude to Darren.

She said: “I’m completely overwhelmed. There’s been people on Facebook saying they’ll share the post, they’ll offer compensation. It’s just brilliant, my daughter was crying, saying he can’t do that.

“I’ve just been blown away by the response from the community.”

Darren, said that he likes to perform a random act of kindness a week, whether that is giving someone flowers or buying them some food and after seeing the story pop up on Facebook he wanted to do whatever he could to help.

He said: “I know what children are like when they’re upset.

“It’s all about free smiles. It doesn’t cost a lot to share a smile.

“I thought if I tighten my belt for a week or two I can buy a bike.

“I don’t want to see children upset.”

Kerry wanted to express her gratitude to Darren for what he had done to help them after the stressful time.

She said: “She always on her bike in the garden, we go down to Portland on little bike rides and she’s very active.

“There’s no words to express how grateful we are.”

A Dorset Police spokesman confirmed they were called to reports of a stolen bike.

They said: “Were called at 1.31pm on Thursday, November 29 to reports of a theft of a child’s bike.”

Police said that they believe the bike was stolen sometime after 2am on Thursday and that it was taken from outside the garden.
