CATCHMENT areas are changing in Weymouth to cope with increased demand for primary school places.

The catchments of Bincombe Valley Primary, St. Andrews Primary in Preston and St. John's Primary have changed slightly. In addition to this, families in the catchments of Beechcroft St. Paul's and St. John's Primary are now also within the catchment areas for neighbouring schools.

In order to help families understand the changes, drop in sessions run by the county council will take place today, Tuesday November 10 at Weymouth Library between 10am and 12pm and on the same day between 2.30pm and 4pm at Westham Children’s Centre.

Officers from the county’s school admissions team will be on hand to offer advice about the changes.

Cllr Toni Coombs, the county council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: “Through informal consultation with local families, we hope this change will help parents in Weymouth have a better chance of getting their children into their preferred school through the application process. I would urge as many parents in Weymouth to come to a drop-in session to find out how the changes might affect them.”
