ARTWORK inspired by the nature and wildlife of Dorset will be on display for two weeks at the Chesil Beach Centre's Wild Art Exhibition.

The exhibition was launched on Saturday by Dorset Wildlife Trust’s president Tony Bates MBE and Weymouth Carnival Queen Cat Greenaway and celebrates what Dorset has to offer.

Pottery, silk illustrations, watercolours, oil paintings and photographs are just some of the types of art on display at the exhibition which is being held until the end of November.

Dorset Wildlife Trust Chesil Beach Centre assistant Vicky Ashby said: "We are really excited about the launch. The artwork we have is absolutely fantastic. We have some beautiful pieces here all inspired by the beautiful surroundings and wildlife of Dorset. We have a whole range of different works from traditional to pottery and I want to encourage everyone to come down and have a look for themselves."

Dorset Wildlife Trust president, Tony, and Carnival Queen, Cat, are both artists and have their work on display.

Tony said: "I am thrilled to be here today. We have such a fantastic range of talented artwork on show."

Cat said she was "delighted" to support the event. She said: "It's always a great opportunity to get behind charity and community events. It's an amazing collection and everyone should be very proud of their work."

One of the artists exhibiting her work is painter and potter Maggie Cook.

She said: “Such enjoyment and inspiration comes from nature and wildlife and I’m delighted to take part in the Chesil Beach Centre Wild Art Exhibition.

“I use shoreline and tideline patterns and the flight of birds to inspire my ceramic pieces of work.”

The Wild Art exhibition is open daily between 10am and 4pm until Sunday, November 22.

The Chesil Beach Centre is halfway along the causeway between Weymouth and Portland.

Visitors to the exhibition can also buy wildlife products and Christmas gifts.

All the proceeds from the items sold go straight into the charity’s conservation work.
