IT’S a double celebration for a Weymouth street after neighbouring hotels were rated in the top 15 in the South West.

Fosters Guest House at 3 Lennox Street, and Cornubia at 2 Lennox Street have been named in travel company Trivago’s Top Hotel Awards.

In the top 20 hotels in the South West, Fosters was rated at number six and Cornubia came in at number 15.

The neighbouring hotels said they were delighted with the accolade and couldn’t believe the coincidence at being the only two hotels in the top 20 in Dorset, and both next door to each other.

Alan and Linda Potter at Cornubia have been running hotels for 20 years. Mr Potter said: “We are very pleased. It’s not bad is it?”

Mark and Teresa Bowers run the Fosters. Mrs Bowers said: “It’s fantastic. We have been here two months. We are new owners and we have kept up the good work.

“We are delighted, we are absolutely chuffed.”

The couple are originally from Surrey and said the hotel business was their 25th wedding anniversary gift to each other. The pair said they wanted to do something for themselves and so moved to Weymouth and into the Fosters.

Mrs Bowers said it was a complete change but that they were really enjoying it and that Weymouth was beautiful.

She said: “We are really enjoying it – we love it. It was exactly the right thing to do at the right time.”

Trivago used aggregated online user ratings in order to recognise the best-rated hotels, both regionally and nationally.

The Somerville in Torquay was the top-rated hotel in the South West, followed closely by The Bath House in Bath and Briarfields, also in Torquay.
