Join Weymouth SEA LIFE Adventure Park this Bank Holiday Monday for their penguin chick’s Naming Ceremony and Official Gender Reveal!

If you’re visiting, join in the fun and guessing the gender by dressing in either pink or blue and watch the small ceremony at Penguin Beach, at 11.30am. There will be a little treat for the little Humboldt Penguin chick and friends; with a special penguin talk to follow at 12pm.

The Park’s Animal Care Team will reveal the gender by cutting into a special cake dyed either pink or blue, celebrating their hard work and efforts, successfully hand rearing the chick.

The chick was born in March 2016 to penguin parents Laurel and Cedar, however they were unable to feed the chick properly and it had to be removed for hand rearing to ensure its survival.

The tiny chick had to be tube fed 4 times a day until it learnt to feed on small fish flakes and fillets, and was kept warm with a special heat lamp.  In 5 weeks the chick grew from 300g to 3kg, and it has since been successfully reintroduced to the adult colony of penguins.
