“The police knocked and told us someone had been hurt but we didn’t hear or see anything.

“Sometimes, on a Saturday night, we can hear people coming back from town talking loudly but that’s it. It’s not a violent area.

“It’s shocking thing to happen anywhere.”

Chris Jones, 61, lives on Radipole Park Drive. He said: “The first I knew about it was when the police car was outside. I wondered what had happened.

“It’s a very quiet neighbourhood so it’s very surprising something like this has happened.

“During the holidays you can hear people coming back from town late at night. They might come in to my yard but there is never any violence.”

And 78-year-old Terrence Edwards added: “I was in bed when it happened but the police called round this morning and told me about what happened.

“You don’t really get any incidents of that nature at all around here.

“You get a lot of devilment from some of the youths but nothing like this. I’m certainly surprised by what’s happened.”
