Weymouth Sunday Concert,
Weymouth Bay Church
Weymouth music club’s latest concert was an outstanding success. Two distinguished local musicians – Walter Brewster, clarinet and piano, and Duncan Honeybourne – piano delighted the audience with a programme full of variety, ranging from classical to jazz.
Everyone loves the gorgeous tones of the clarinet, and we could wallow in the beauty of Brahms’ Sonata in F minor, the more modern Sonatina by Bohuslav Martinu (1890 – 1959) and the Grand Duo Concertant by Carl Maria von Weber (1786 – 1826).
We enjoyed the variety afforded by the two piano duets. First came Schubert’s Fantasy in F minor, another deeply emotional work, but not all sad, written in the year he died aged 31. This was followed by Poulenc’s Sonata for 4 hands, snappy and amazingly difficult.
Of course we had an encore, a Paganini arrangement which rounded off a great concert.
The next concert is an unusual duo combination, oboe and guitar, performed by Stephanie Oatridge and Adam Brown, on Sunday February 12, 3pm at Weymouth Bay Church.
