THIS weekend will see a Musical Extravaganza being held at Weymouth Pavilion to raise money for the Royal British Legion.
The concert will feature a variety of acts including the Dorset Police Male Voice Choir and the Weymouth Concert Brass Band.
There will also be a number of solo acts performing. Among them is opera singer Laura Stephanie Sharley of Weymouth.
Laura, who holds a Bachelor of Music Performance with Honours, has recently graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), one of the world’s most prestigious Music Conservatories, where she was awarded a scholarship in 2010.
The musical director will be Kevin Goodwin, who was brought up within a musical family and started to learn the trumpet and piano from an early age.
During 25 years of service Kevin has performed all over the world and served his country in two military campaigns.
Ian Jarvis, Royal British Legion Fund Raiser for Dorset, is urging people to support the concert.
He said: "This year, The Royal British Legion is asking the nation to Rethink Remembrance by recognising the sacrifices made not just by the Armed Forces of the past, but by today’s generation too.
"For many people, Remembrance is associated with the fallen of the First and Second World Wars. While we will always remember them, the Legion wants to raise awareness of a new generation of veterans and Service personnel that need our support.£
n The concert is on Saturday February 25 and begins at 7pm. Call 01305 783225 for more information.
Call Weymouth Pavilion box office for tickets.
