BUDDY HOLLY, A LEGEND REBORN

Weymouth Pavilion

Five men, a couple of guitars, a drum kit, a keyboard and a double bass brought back the past for an enthusiastic audience in an evening that relived the glory days of rock n roll during a night of musical nostalgia.

Buddy Holly and the Crickets were given new life by this talented team headed by Marc Robinson who looks and sounds like the great man himself during a show that is full of lively and upbeat music from the 1950s.

Popular hits like That’ll be the Day, Heartbeat, True Love Ways and Oh Boy got the audience singing along and the line-up also included songs penned by Buddy that were recorded by Elvis, The Everly Brothers and Little Richard to name a few, demonstrating the remarkable talent of the young man from Texas.

A tribute show usually gives a snapshot biography of the artist but not a word was said in this performance about Buddy’s life and his tragic death at the age of just 22.

In addition, the four 'Crickets' musicians that brilliantly performed non stop all evening were never properly acknowledged or named onstage and were not even mentioned in the programme.

The Pavilion is hosting an Elton John evening on Friday (24) and The Matt Monro Story takes to the stage on Friday March 10, which should get the locals singing along in style.
