ALBUM REVIEW
ALISON KRAUSS
WINDY CITY
ADELE says she is obsessed with Alison Krauss, the most rewarded female artist in Grammy history.
Windy City is made up of 10 classic tracks sung by the likes of Glennn Campbell and Willie Nelson. Songs Krauss has known from the bluegrass world play a large part on the album.
While some, such as opener Losing You, recorded by Brenda Lee, are brimming with resonance and emotion, others need a bigger leap of faith in the merits of bluegrass to embrace fully – River in the Rain from the Broadway musical Big River – The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn anyone?!
You will, however, find many chinks of sunlight in an album full of reflection. And that is down to to Krauss's wonderfully defiant, eclectic collection.
