ALBUM REVIEW
VERA LYNN
HER GREATEST FROM ABBEY ROAD
MUCH of the tenderness of Vera Lynn's voice comes through on this album. While there's still the rousing anthems of White Cliffs of Dover and Land of Hope and Glory, the Ted Carfrae mixes of The Nearness of You and Where or When sound like they were recorded yesterday.
Dame Vera's beautiful interpretations of these popular standards sit nicely alongside five previously unreleased recordings, including a 1960s re-recording of her number one UK hit My Son, My Son.
All of these recordings were done at the Abbey Road studios between 1962 and 1974 and, while there's plenty we've heard before, there's enough unique material on his album to broaden its appeal to more than just completionists.
