THERE’S just a few weeks left until the Wessex Folk Festival, and if you want to get involved, now’s your chance.

The festival committee are looking for volunteer stewards to get in touch.

And if you’ve got a flair for music, there’s a chance to try out a wide range of folk instruments.

Amy Hopwood, of the festival committee, said: The festival committee have been very busy over the winter, booking acts for the two main stages and arranging entertainments for the local pubs and folk music workshops. We’ve also been booking throngs of Morris dancers and a wonderful array of stalls which will bring plenty of colour and interest to Trinity Road. But now we want you to get involved.

“Have you ever thought you’d like to give folk music a try? Maybe you could be a brilliant mandolin player but just don’t know it yet? Or perhaps you think you’ve got the rhythm and flair to be a bodhran player, but have never had the chance to try? Well on Sunday afternoon, June 4, we’ve booked a special session in Hope Church where you can come along and get your hands on a wide range of folk instruments, with expert tutors standing by to answer your questions. Come along and see where your hidden talents lie.”

Amy said that to ensure the event goes without a hitch, they are looking for volunteer stewards.

Duties include selling programmes and collecting the crucial donations which help organisers keep this a free event.

Amy added: “You don’t have to volunteer for the whole festival, even if it’s just a few hours it would be a huge help.”

The festival takes place along Weymouth harbourside and in Hope Square from June 2 to 4.
