A Weymouth care provider has been praised for its compassionate, understanding and sufficient service.

St Jude's Care, run from an office in Weymouth, is registered to provide personal care to people living in their own homes across Dorset.

An inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) took place on March 23 and March 24 2017.

At the time of the inspection the service was providing support to 60 people, 18 of these received 24 hour support from staff.

The CQC found that the service was 'good' in all five areas of scrutiny including, safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership.

The report highlighted that people said they felt safe with the support they received from St Jude's Care and that staff responded quickly when needed.

In the report, inspectors said: "People were supported by staff who were kind and caring in their approach. One person explained that staff were caring because when they were upset staff 'make me a cup of tea and put their arm around me'.

"They went on to tell us that they were really satisfied with the staff that they had and said 'I love them, absolutely love them'."

A relative said also that staff had "a sympathetic ear" which they found supportive.

The report recognised that clients and relatives felt that St Jude’s staff had the "sufficient skills and knowledge" to support them and that staff understood how to support people to make choices about the care they received, and encouraged people to make decisions about their care.

St Jude's has recently invested in a new fleet of vehicles to ensure care employees were able to drive safe, reliable vehicles whilst attending clients all over Dorset.

Another recent addition to the St Jude’s service is its freshly cooked meals, prepared locally and delivered on a china plate, hot and ready to enjoy.

Ben Andrews, owner and director of St Jude’s Care said: “We are delighted with the results. The whole team has worked very hard to improve standards in all areas of the service.

"Recently St Jude's Care was nominated as a finalist in the Dorset Echo Industry Awards in the Customer Service category and this type of recognition of our efforts really helps to motivate the team at St Jude's.

"We are very pleased with the rating of 'good' awarded to us by the Care Quality Commission. However, we will all be working towards an 'outstanding' grade on our next inspection.”
