A man has been released without charge following an investigation into a reported assault near Weymouth train station.

A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after an incident in the alleyway that runs between King Street and Jubilee Close.

Another man, aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital and treated for a head injury following the incident, which happened at around 2.30pm on Tuesday.

Police said it has now been confirmed that the man had not suffered any new injuries, but that it was an old injury which had re-opened.

The man arrested has been released without charge and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
