Emergency services were called after reports of a distressed person in the water near the Jubilee Clock at Weymouth.
Wyke Coastguard was called at 9.32pm on Friday evening and a team was dispatched to assist a person in the water off Weymouth Beach.
A statement from the coastguard said: "Upon arrival at scene, the person had made their way from the water, and were being attended to by Dorset Police and South West Ambulance Service.
"With no further requirement for our presence, the team were relieved from the tasking, and returned to base."
