Watch out for flying sausages! A popular village festival will be returning this weekend.

The Springhead in Sutton Poyntz will be hosting its fourth Dog, Sausage and Cider Festival on Sunday.

The festival proves busier and busier every year and raises money for Margaret Green Animal Rescue and Ann Bond Dog Training.

Landlady and organiser, Jo Parker, has gone above and beyond to make sure this year is even bigger and better than before.

And one of the events she is most looking forward to it the sausage throwing contest.

Speaking about the upcoming event, Jo said: "It's our fourth year and we wanted to make sure it was even bigger than last year.

"The most important thing is that we have more parking available - we have leased the field next to us - so this year parking will not be an issue.

"We also have a dog scurry coming to the event this year, as well as more food and cider stalls.

"And of course it wouldn't be right if we didn't have our sausage throwing contest - people get very competitive but it is great fun.

"We will also have a vintage cake stand and live music."

Looking back to how it all came about, Jo said: "It was really a combination between ourselves and Ann Bond Dog Training. There are so many people with dogs in the area and we thought it would be great to host a dog show and raise some money at the same time.

"So we thought we would make it a big family event, and who doesn't love sausages and cider?

In the dog show there will be a host of classes to enter including most handsome, golden oldie, fancy dress, best rescue and many more.

There will also be wood fired pizza and a barbecue as well as more undercover space - but hopefully it won't be needed.

Jo took over the running of The Springhead in October 2012 and said the festival is one of the best events of the calender.

She is inviting everyone to come down to the pub with their furry friends and enjoy the festival.

The Dog, Sausage and Cider Festival will be held on Sunday, August 27 from 11am onwards.
