A businessman is appealing for witnesses after a giant doughnut was stolen from his premises.

The 4ft high, 3ft wide doughnut was recently stolen from the rear of a premises located on the Esplanade in Weymouth.

The owner of the business, who did not wish to be named, is hoping other businesses in the area may have CCTV that could help.

He said: "The doughnut was 4ft wide and 3ft high and it was pretty heavy - about 25 kilograms. It must have taken at least two people to take it.

"It was stored at the back of our premises.

"It's just frustrating and irritating more than anything else - what use is it to anyone? It's a model to promote the fact that we sell doughnuts so why someone would want to steal it is beyond me.

"I'm hoping other businesses in the area or residents may have noticed something.

"It cost about £300 so its not worth a fortune but like I said it is just so frustrating.

"If anyone saw anything I would ask them to get in contact with Dorset Police as soon as possible."

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "It was reported to us at 12.37pm on Thursday, October 5.

"The theft occurred sometime between midnight on September 30 and October 4.

"It was the theft of an ornamental doughnut, which was 4ft and 3ft and weighs about 25 kilograms."

No arrests have been made.
