It was a blooming marvellous effort by a mother and daughter from Weymouth who are celebrating success in a flower arranging contest for their poignant display.

Jean Jones and Denise Jones from Wyke Regis, who were Dorset and Guernsey Area champions, represented the area in the Nationals Competition at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool.

They were delighted to be ‘Highly Commended’ in their class, a category called ‘From the Pages of History’.

The pair chose to interpret the 9/11 atrocity in New York, portraying the “triumph of good over evil and all the passing of the beautiful souls”.

Jean and Denise were also both part of a three person team to achieve the Silver Gilt award at RHS Malvern Show.

They would like to thank members of their club for their support and hope that other members will be inspired by their achievement and follow in their footsteps.

They would also like to thank the helpful and knowledgeable staff at P&M Read Florists, Dorchester Road, Weymouth where they purchased their flowers which were used in the competition exhibit.

Jean and Denise are members of the Melcombe Regis Flower Arranging Society in Weymouth and hope this success will inspire other budding flower arrangers of any age who would like take the step to join their friendly club and become members.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the club it meets once a month on the third Thursday of the month.
