A grandmother who this year got her master’s degree in science is preparing to exhibit her work.

Sally Pinhey, 72, from Upwey, graduated from Bournemouth University this month with a Masters of Science in Green Economy.

She was able to study at home over a two-year period to gain her new qualification. She has already put it to good use by establishing the Botanical Illustration Ecology Group (BIEG). Botanical illustration is the art of depicting the form, colour, and details of plant species.

Sally said: “This new group should raise the profile of botanical illustration as a useful ecological tool, and provide more work for botanical illustrators.”

She is exhibiting her work from December 5 to the end of January in the Creative Coverage Christmas and New Year Exhibition at Bridport Arts Centre Cafe and Foyer alongside other artists including Terry Whitworth and Dick Hewitson, Lin Williams, Joanna Commings and Roger St. Barbe. Sally will be running illustration workshops at Kingston Maurward next year.
