Santa Claus is coming to town for disadvantaged children across the county as more businesses back the Dorset Echo Toy Appeal.

For 18 years, the appeal has campaigned to make sure every child in Dorset gets a visit from Father Christmas - no matter what their situation.

Weymouth convenience store, Eats and Drinks is the latest business to get behind the appeal, generously donating £100 to buy gifts for children who would otherwise go without this Christmas.

Jay from Eats and Drinks said: "We have done it every year for the past four or five years because it's such a good cause. It's a fantastic charity and children deserve a good Christmas."

The shop, located in King Street is open from 5.45am until 10.30pm every day providing the Weymouth community with goods and sundries.

Jay said: "Eats and Drinks will be open all over Christmas and throughout the New Year to support the local community."

The shop's Toy Appeal donation will be used to buy gifts and vouchers for underprivileged children who will truly appreciate them.

Echo promotions manager Debbie Hellaby said: “Without the support of our readers and local businesses we would not be able to help to put smiles on all those families faces at Christmas, so thank you.”

As well as business donations, members of the public have generously been putting toys in bins around the county so we can get them off to a new home.

Last year, the Dorset Echo raised more than £4,493 and collected hundreds of toys through the appeal and we are hoping to top that figure this year - ensuring even more children have a toy to open on Christmas Day.

Collection Points are now accepting toy donations and will be based across Dorset.
