PLAQUES
WEYMOUTH RITZ AND WEYMOUTH PAVILION
WEYMOUTH PIER
WE'VE come across many well known and lesser known individuals in this plaque series but here is a chance to celebrate a great Weymouth institution which provides the town with entertainment and culture.
A plaque to Weymouth Pavilion and its predecessor The Ritz is on Weymouth Pier.
The Ritz opened in 1908 but was reduced to ashes by a huge fire on April 13, 1954. The theatre burnt to the ground with just the frontage and foyer left. It was rebuilt as Weymouth Pavilion and owned and operated by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council until 2013. It was then taken over by the community and now welcomes big names and West End musicals such as Our House.
