Motivated staff from a supermarket giant are lacing up their running shoes to join the fight against cancer.

The dedicated women, who work together at the Tesco Superstore on Weymouth Avenue, Dorchester, are set to take part in Cancer Research UK’s Race For Life at Kingston Maurward Collage on Sunday.

So far they have raised more than £500 by fundraising in store to help more men, women and children survive cancer.

Natalie Hall the Community Champion for the store said: "Race For Life is an amazing way to celebrate life but also remember those who have been lost to cancer. We can’t wait to join like-minded ladies committed to the cause as we unite against a disease that affects us all in some way.

It’s so motivating to know the money we raise will help Cancer Research UK scientists and doctors find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease, helping save more lives."

Cancer Research UK’s Race For Life, held in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring woman-only series of 5k, 10k, 'pretty muddy', half marathon and hiking events which raise millions of pounds every year to fund crucial research.

According to Cancer Research, one in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives, but cancer survival in the UK has doubled since the early 1970s and more people are surviving the disease now then ever before.

Emily Smith, head Of events marketing for Cancer Research UK, said: "We’re so grateful to the Tesco team for signing up for Race For Life in Dorchester. Whether they plan to pound the pavements or amble to the finish line, every step participants take will help to support crucial life-saving research.

"Money raised through Race For Life is helping to drive research to help beat over 200 types of cancer - that’s why every person who shows their support can make a real difference in the fight against the disease."

A dedicated team for the Dorchester store will also be supporting the upcoming Dorchester Marathon and Casterbridge Half on Sunday, May 27 by running an aid station to support runners along their way.
