Driver is savagely attacked

9:56am Tuesday 2nd October 2001

POLICE are hunting three savage thugs after a lorry driver was stabbed and bundled into a car in Chislehurst.

The 26-year-old victim, who was working for a courier company, was driving along Perry Street when he was flashed by a black Ford Granada.

Believing something to be wrong with his vehicle, he pulled up on the side of the road before being subjected to the terrifying ordeal.

One of the attackers brandished a knife before stabbing him in the abdomen and dragging him into the car.

His lorry and its contents were then stolen before he was taken to Shooters Hill Golf Course, in Greenwich, where he was dumped.

After raising the alarm he was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where his condition is described as stable.

One of the attackers is described as white, about 28, of stocky build and with a scar on the left hand side of his face. He was wearing blue jeans and a black zip-up jacket.

Police are appealing for anyone with information on the attack to come forward.

Leading the investigation, detective constable Terry Leonard said: “This was a particularly nasty attack on September 27, and we need to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything. It is vital these men are caught as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information, call 020 8284 8144.
