IT has been a busy couple of days here at the practice.

Added in to the mix of routine consultations and emergencies is the fact that we are all getting to grips with a new computer system.

As in so many work places, we rely on a computer system for all our notes and administration needs.

Our old system was becoming increasingly outdated so it was time for an upgrade.

The potential in our new system is brilliant but, as anyone who has been through a change in work systems themselves will be able to appreciate, those first days of getting used to the new system can be a complete pain.

Luckily our clients are very understanding and have been comforting me with tales of their own workplace systems being hellish at times; this is definitely a comfort as I struggle to remain professional whilst trying to remember which key to press.

Our big emergency admission this morning was a dog that had been hit by a car – I was horrified to hear that the driver of the car was trying to drive away from the scene before a passer-by remonstrated with them and they stopped.

The patient was operated on this morning and so far all is going well but as I write it is too early days to give any more details.
