TWO men were injured in a rush-hour crash on Ridgeway Hill near Weymouth.

Dorset Police, South Western Ambulance Service and Dorset Fire and Rescue Service all attended the collision next to a lay-by on the Weymouth Relief Road this morning.

It happened just before 8am on the A354 heading towards Dorchester from Weymouth and resulted in some traffic delays.

Two ambulances, five police vehicles, a fire engine and a fire and rescue car attended the scene.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: “We were called at about five past eight to an incident on the Weymouth Relief Road. Fire and rescue and ambulances were on the scene as well as a recovery vehicle.”

The cars involved were a red Honda Civic and a Grey Seat Leon both of which were registered to addresses in Weymouth.

The incident occurred around the lay-by at the Weymouth end of the road.

An eyewitness reported damage to both cars but that people had got out of the vehicles safely.

The eyewitness said: “People were out of the cars. There’s one car that’s facing the wrong way and its horn keeps going off because of the damage.”

Damage could be seen to the front of the Honda Civic and the back of the Seat Leon.

A spokesman from Dorset Fire and Rescue Person reported that nobody was trapped in the vehicles following the crash.

They said: “A crew from Weymouth attended. Nobody was trapped so they just made the vehicles and the scene safe.”

Nobody was seriously injured during the incident but two men were taken to hospital.

A spokesman from South Western Ambulance Service said: “There was a male patient in each vehicle, one was complaining of back and neck pain and the other of abdominal pain.

“Both were taken to Dorset County Hospital.”

Paramedics could be seen administering care to the neck of one male by the side of the road.

The road did remain open throughout the morning but traffic was slow moving as police were forced to close one lane for a short stretch of road whilst they dealt with the incident.
