STUDENTS at The Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester are working hard to organise and promote a charity dog walk next month in aid of Dogs Trust.

Weymouth Walkies 2015 is being organised by eight A-Level applied business studies students as part of their event management unit.

The charity walk will start at the Pavilion car park where owners and their furry friends will walk to the Oasis Café and back.

Upon completing the 7k walk, each owner will each receive a doggy goodie bag and a certificate for their dog.

Students have been promoting the walk during their weekends along Weymouth beach, encouraging people to sign up and have so far received a good response.

The group are hoping that owners from Weymouth and Portland to Dorchester will support their event and help them raise money for a good cause.

Applied Business Teacher, Mandy Banfield said: "The students have been working really hard to get people on board. They have set up a Facebook and Just Giving site and have sent out letters to different organisations. The students thought that because there are so many dog owners in Weymouth it would be great to do something for Dogs Trust.

A Dogs Trust spokesperson said: "Dogs Trust would like to say a big thank you to The Thomas Hardye School for thinking of us as they plan their charity event. Their ongoing support is crucial in helping us to continue caring for over 17,000 dogs every year and finding their ‘furry-tail’ ending. We wish them lots of luck, and we look forward to hearing how it goes."

Weymouth Walkies 2015 will take place on Saturday April 18 and will start at 10am and will cost £5 for people and their dogs to take part.
