GET your hands on thousands of tasty eggs this Easter.

Abbotsbury Sub Tropical Gardens will be hosting a bumper Easter egg hunting bonanza on its grounds from Friday, April 3 to Monday, April 6.

Yummy eggs, chocolate bunnies and even a few fuzzy bugs will be popping up around the garden for young and old to find.

The Dorset Echo’s mascot Eli delivered a donation of thousands of crème eggs to the gardens as treats for eager egg-hunters to find.

Over the four days there will be 8,000 tickets to discovered hidden around the gardens – but don’t worry, they aren’t hidden in too difficult places. Each ticket can be swapped with the Easter Bunny for a yummy chocolate treat.

Each day there will be three golden horseshoes hidden as well and each lucky finder will win a 1kg Italian milk chocolate egg.

But that’s not all, if you find a fuzzy bug around the garden, you will win a cuddly rabbit toy and if you find one of the gold letters that spells out Abbotsbury, you will win a big golden chocolate rabbit.

This is the 20th anniversary of the event and this year is special as the gardens celebrate their 250th anniversary.

There will be a host of extra activities over the Easter weekend, including a giant trampoline, a Mickey Mouse slide, glitter tattoos, face painting and children’s entertainers.

On Friday the gardens will open their newest attraction, a 36-metre Burma rope bridge across the Jurassic swamp at the bottom of the gardens.

General Manager of Abbotsbury Tourism, John Houston, said that because it was their anniversary year, that this year all their events were bigger and better than ever, with more prizes and more fun events.

He said it was going to be a great weekend and encouraged everyone to go down and join in the fun.

He said: “It’s a great way to see one of the best gardens in the country. We were the Garden of the Year in 2012.

“Come and see the stunning spring colour in one of the best gardens in the country and have fun with the family as well.”

Normal charges apply to get into the gardens but once in, all the children’s entertainment, including the glitter tattoos and face painting is included.
