DORSET residents can still sign up for the Dorset Waste Partnership’s (DWP) garden waste service at this year’s price.

Residents need to apply by the end of July to receive a year’s fortnightly service for £41, £1.64 per collection, starting in September.

From August residents will have to pay next year’s price of £45 a year and the service will start in April.

Those who sign up will get a wheelie bin for their garden waste, which will be collected from the kerbside every fortnight, except for two weeks over Christmas, saving residents the trip and fuel costs to the household recycling centre.

Garden waste can include hedge cuttings, grass cuttings, twigs and small branches, plants, cut flowers, leaves and small amounts of home-grown fruit and vegetables.

The price of the garden waste service is reviewed annually by the DWP Joint Committee.

The DWP operates two annual start dates, in April and September, to help manage the service and reduce the cost of bin delivery.

Properties not suitable for wheelie bins can get a compostable sack service.
