SOME things are seemingly just destined to go on forever.

The monarchy, Coronation Street, the Rolling Stones, the conflict in the Middle East, the Great Wall of China, Donald Trump’s hair and the American election campaign, last Saturday’s shop at Tesco, this sentence, for example.

So it is with rock and, indeed, roll.

Whodafunk back in 1991 Harry Skinner and Dave Saunders would still be tearing it up all over the shop with their crack rhythm’n’blues outfit The Producers.

Yes, indeedlydoodly, the Bournemouth blues band are marking their 25th anniversary by doing what they do best: touring, setting up, rocking out, packing up, and repeat.

Now with Ray Drury on keys and Biff Smith on drums, they’ll showcasing new material and some of the old favourites at the Electric Palace in Bridport next Friday February 12.

Incidentally, isn’t Biff a great name for a drummer, up there with Twang for a guitarist, Parp for a trumpeter and Grumpy Old Fart for a bass player.

Tickets for Palace show are £10.50 from the box office on 01308 426336.

And staying out in the wild west, there’s a pretty impressive line-up tonight, Friday, February 5 at The Ropemakers pub in Bridport.

Bristol-based Gaz Brookfield has been constantly in demand since winning The Acoustic magazine’s singer-songwriter crown in 2010 with thousands of gigs across Europe.

And he’s joined tonight not only by Glastonbury legend Nick Parker but also the fiery fiddling force of nature that is Benny Wain.

It’s going to be absolutely rammed in this bijou boozer, so get there early okay?

And finally for this week, if you love your blues and your roots music, Tom Hopkins is a bit a local leg- end round these parts, having done much to establish jam nights, blues nights and generally all round good stuff nights.

He’ll be gigging with his new band Grand Re-Union who will be performing a new show entitled Get Rhythm at the Corn Exchange in Dorchester next Friday, February 12.

If you’re a fan of early folk and Chicago blues and old style RnB from the 1920s to the 1960s, (and let’s face it, if you’re not you’re a wrong ‘un, go away and leave me alone, okay?) you’re in for a great night.

Tom will be joined by former members of the BB Hall and One Foot in the Groove bands Tony Day on harmonica and Mark Warder on bass.

It’s just a mere five of your earth pounds to get in and all money raised goes to fund the work of those fabulous people at Dorchester Arts. God bless ‘em all.

Right, that’s your lot for this week. Till next time…
