SEVERE delays are expected across Dorset as Storm Imogen pounds the coast with gusts of up to 70mph.

The Met Office issued an amber warning for wind and warned motorists to take extra caution today.

A spokesperson for the Me Office said: "An area of strong winds is likely to extend east across the South West and parts of southern England on Monday Morning.

"Gusts of 60-70mph are likely.

"Some very large waves are also likely to affect coasts.

"Please be prepared for disruption to travel as well as possible damage to trees and structures, and interruption of power supplies."

More downpours are expected to arrive in the South West with 15-25mm of rain falling widely, and 40mm on high ground.

Delays are expected on the A354 Portland Beach Road in Weymouth between the Dumbarton Road junction and the Queens Road junction, because of possible closure due to high tide.

The closure is expected to run from 7.30am until 9am today.

Delays are also expected between the A354 Weymouth Road Dorchester and the A352 Dorchester.

A35 in Dorchester is closed in both directions between Football Ground Roundabout and the A352 junction, because of flooding.

Drivers should also expected delays on B3155 Preston Beach Road in Preston between Chalbury Corner and the B3159 Westerhall Road junction, because of possible road closure because of high tide.

There is also disruption between Larcombe Lane West Milton and Yellow Lane Loders. 

Bridport Road in West Milton closed between the Larcombe Lane junction and the Yellow Lane junction, because of a landslip.

West Stafford Bypass in West Stafford closed in both directions at the West Stafford junction, because of flooding.
