WEYMOUTH Business Improvement District and other representatives of local activity providers will be promoting Weymouth as an adventure sports and activity destination at this year's Telegraph’s Outdoor Adventure and Travel Show.

Increasing out-of-season footfall is highlighted as a major part of the BID's business plan, which last year included attendance at national trade and travel shows to promote Weymouth and Portland as more than just a summer family resort.

The aim is to target higher income sectors and niche markets, of which the outdoor sports and activities is one of the biggest growth sectors for tourism in the UK.

The show, held at the ExCel London, is the UK’s largest outdoor show with more than 50,000 visitors. It is now in its 15th year and offers outdoor enthusiasts an opportunity to find out about new activities, new locations, buy the latest products, gear and equipment, meet a range of special guests and much more.

The team will be promoting Weymouth as the ideal destination for watersports such as kayaking, windsurfing and diving and land sports such as cycling and rock climbing, as well as supporting Weymouth’s accommodation sector.

To aid this promotion, a leaflet has been created to describe Weymouth’s perfect landscape for adventure sports and activities, along with a list of providers and a calendar of sporting events held in the area.

Nigel Reed, manager of Weymouth BID, said “Weymouth is the perfect destination for adventure sports and with the market ever growing, this is the right time to promote the area. Representing Weymouth at national shows is a great way to get Weymouth on the map and in amongst bigger tourism organisations as well as delivering the BID’s business plan."

Other organisations at the show include Visit Wales, National and Regional Parks such as Broads National Park, The New Forest Tourist Board and Isle of Wight Tourism.

The event is being held from Thursday, February 11 to Sunday, February 14 at the ExCel London.
