TRAIN services in Dorset will get a boost to help residents beat roadworks on the A30.

The A30 could be closed at Sherborne for up to a month in order to allow important roadworks to take place.

South West Trains is set to run four additional trains every weekday from Tuesday, May 31 in order to provide extra options for those affected by the disruptions in the area.

Chris Loder, head of service strategy at South West Trains, said: "We’re providing four additional trains each weekday to help businesses and communities while the A30 is closed at Sherborne.

"Our stations are in close proximity to the A30 and with these additional services, we hope to offer an alternative to those who are affected by the road closure.

"This is in addition to the regular services we already offer and builds on the significant investment provided recently for passengers in Dorset and Somerset; including free WiFi on trains, summer special services to Dorchester and Weymouth and a new Community Rail Partnership.

"We hope the extra services will help to provide more travel options for passengers during the roadworks and show how easy and convenient travelling with South West Trains is."

The additional trains are part of ongoing investment by South West Trains in the area, including summer special services to provide better links between the north and south of the county.
