LESS than a day after a theatrical display for crowds in Weymouth, lifeboat crews have been tested for real.

At 5.10pm, Weymouth RNLI inshore lifeboat was launched to help the Coastguard take an injured woman from Durdle Door beach to Lulworth Cove.

The woman had tumbled and hurt her leg on the steps at Man o' War Bay and needed to be taken to hospital.

A spokesman for the lifeboat service said: "The South West Ambulance first responder who first attended the incident and the paramedics who arrived soon after decided that once she was put in a splint and into a stretcher it would be easier for all concerned if the she was transported by lifeboat to a waiting ambulance in Lulworth Cove.

"Once on scene at 5.38 pm the lifeboat volunteer crew assisted by Lulworth Coastguard and the medical team transferred her onto the lifeboat and a few minutes and short sea trip later carried her ashore to the waiting ambulance.

"The inshore lifeboat left Lulworth Cove at 6.47pm for the return to Weymouth Harbour."

This incident comes a day after crowds at Nothe Fort were entertained with an incredible display involving the coastguard helicopter and lifeboat crews.

It will be performed again on Thursday July 28 at Bowleaze Cove from 6.30pm.
