A MAN was airlifted to hospital after falling on to a brick wall. 

The coastguard and air ambulance were called to assist the ambulance service after a man was seriously injured. 

On Friday night, Swanage coastguard team was paged to assist South Western Ambulance Service with a seriously injured man. 

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said that it was called at 19:07 to treat a man in his 60s.

The spokesman said: "We were called to treat a male in his 60s who had fallen on to a brick wall and suffered a nasty back injury."

The incident took place at a residential address and the man was flown to Southampton General Hospital.

On its website, Swanage coastguard also said that Wiltshire Air Ambulance attended King George's Playing Field in Swanage, assisted by the coastguard and police. 

The coastguard team was then requested to assist at the scene of the incident before helpign the ambulance back to the landing site.

The coastguard added that just last week the team practised setting up a night landing.
