A YOB banned from areas of Weymouth for causing trouble has been jailed after he breached an order placed on him to behave.

Nigel Treadwell, 38, and of no fixed abode, was issued with a Criminal Behaviour Order by Weymouth Magistrates’ Court last October.

It states he must not do certain things such as act anti-socially, enter the main seafront, train station and certain streets in Melcombe Regis, or drink alcohol in public. He was also ordered to engage with the EDP Drug and Alcohol Services at least once a week.

Magistrates were told that at around 8.45am on Tuesday September 6, Treadwell acted in a threatening, intimidating and abusive manner toward a woman on Lennox Street. Then on October 7 and 8 he was seen to be drinking alcohol along St Thomas Street.

The police were advised by EDP Weymouth that Treadwell had not been attending meetings at least once a week as required.

Police were called to The Esplanade at around 12pm on Tuesday, October 18 to reports of street drinkers acting in an anti-social manner. Treadwell was located and arrested for breaching his order.

He admitted six breaches of the order and was handed a week in prison for each breach resulting in a total of six weeks jail.

Dorset Police works with the Community Safety Team at Weymouth & Portland Borough Council to bring Criminal Behaviour Order applications to court.

Sergeant Andy Jenkins, of Weymouth police, said: “Treadwell has a long history of anti-social behaviour in Weymouth. We managed to ensure a positive requirement was included in his original CBO to engage with the EDP on a weekly basis.

"Establishing support networks and treatment is crucial in helping street drinkers change their behaviour.

"Unfortunately, despite this Treadwell has failed to comply with his order and we have been left with no option other than to take him to court.

“I hope this case sends out a message that we will not tolerate this kind of anti-social behaviour and we will actively work with our partners to bring offenders to justice.”

Borough council spokesman for community safety Cllr Francis Drake said: "We were happy to assist the police with the investigation. We have helped to address issues of anti-social behaviour and ensured that the individual receives the help and support they need.

“This is a great example of positive partnership working.”
