A fire on a boat in Weymouth Harbour was extinguished this afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the boat in the harbour near the stone pier at around 3pm.

There was a fire in an engine compartment of a fishing boat that was around 20ft by 10ft.

A fire crew from Weymouth attended and extinguished the fire using two CO2 fire extinguishers.

The coastguard team was also called to assist.

However, on arrival the fire had already been extinguished and the team made the area secure and liaised with the owners before returning to the station.

The fire service said a quick reaction by a member of the public in contacting 999 helped resolve the incident quickly.
