A WOMAN suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car as she crossed a road in Weymouth town centre.

The woman, in her 50s, was in collision with a blue Ford Titanium C-Max.

It happened on the morning of Saturday, October 15, but details were only released this morning by Dorset Police, who are appealing for witnesses.

They said the woman was crossing Westham Road, at the junction of Great George Street, at about 8.20am when the collision happened.

The woman – originally from Romania but living locally – suffered leg injuries and has since had surgery.

She is expected to spend a number of weeks in hospital.

Dorset Police believes there may have been a number of people in the area at the time of the collision and is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police constable Hayley Brown, of Weymouth police, said: “Following enquiries I believe that a number of people were in the area at the time and may have spoken to the victim and her family.

“I am appealing to those members of the public and anyone else who witnessed the incident to please contact Dorset Police.”
