AN UNPLEASANT sight has been greeting workers as they empty a post box in Weymouth.

Police are investigating after several incidents of dog mess being put through the same post box. It is affecting the large business box on the corner of Stavordale Road and Abbotsbury Road.

As well as being unpleasant for workers it is damaging the post.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: “We have received a report of dog mess being put into the post box at Stavordale Road.

“It has been reported to have happened on five or six separate occasions recently.”

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “We treat vandalism of any kind extremely seriously and such actions both damage the mail and create unsafe and unpleasant working conditions for the postmen and women who empty the postbox. We will continue to monitor the situation and we would ask anyone witnessing suspicious activity by this box to report it to the police immediately.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police quoting incident number 27:74.
