HUNDREDS of Santas were ho-hohoping to raise some money for a good Claus while taking on a festive fun run.

The Weldmar Family Santa Fun Run was held at Dorchester Rugby Club and saw more than 200 adults and children all dressed as Father Christmas to raise money for the hospicecare trust.

Weldmar is the official charity partner of Dorchester Rugby Club this year and this was the sixth annual Santa Fun Run.

Thankfully it was a bright if not chilly morning as the participants donned their red suits to take on the two-mile fun run.

The Santas were all warmed up by Jo Thomson from Anytime Fitness as she got them all shaking and moving before the run.

The horde of Santas then lined-up on the start line before being cheered off on the run.

John Morris from Wareham was the first to cross the finishing line and be handed his Santa medal.

He said it was a good event and also to be out supporting Weldmar.

There was plenty for the watching public to enjoy as well with a tombola, craft stalls, mulled wine and hot food to enjoy.

Weldmar events fundraiser, Katie Slade, was delighted with how the event went.

She said: “It’s amazing. There’s more than 200 Santas.

“It’s a fantastic venue to do it from.

They’ve let us use their club. Its just fantastic and it’s a beautiful morning.

“Hopefully they’ve all gone off and had a good run.”

While the fundraising total isn’t known, Katie said the event was a great start to people’s Christmas season.

She said: “ “I think it’s a really lovely start to people’s festivities. It’s a really lovely family event. I t’s an event that everyone can get involved in, children and adults.

“it’s a great family event and hopefully we’ll raise lots of money for Weldmar.”

She also paid tribute to all the marshals and volunteers who make the event possible, saying that Weldmar couldn’t do it without them.
