A WEYMOUTH man has beaten cancer, and wants to give back to the hospital that saved him.

David Ford, 67, was born and has lived most of his life in Weymouth.

In 2015 Mr Ford was diagnosed with bone cancer, undergoing major surgery in November 2015 at Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital in Oxford, where they managed to remove it.

The live-saving treatment meant that Mr Ford could return to touring the country entertaining people with his ‘American Legends’ tribute show, something that has been his passion since he was young.

He praised the healthcare services who gave him another chance at life.

Mr Ford said, “I really feel that our NHS is absolutely incredible when we need it. There was a 20% chance that I would have died. Now I’m getting to the stage where I can walk without a stick. I’m absolutely indebted to them.”

Mr Ford is hoping that a fundraising event will raise money to give back to the people that treated him.

On April 29, he is returning to the Weymouth Golf Club for a charity evening of his ‘Neil Diamonds and American Legends’ show, and is hoping that local businesses in Weymouth can help raise money by offering raffle prizes or donations.

Although Mr Ford now lives in Weston Supermare, he still regularly visits West Dorset, and can't wait to return to the golf club where he has many friends.

He said: “I love Weymouth, I’ve still got great feelings for Weymouth. My son lives in Poundbury and my daughter lives on Portland.”

Unfortunately, tickets for the charity night are sold out but anyone can help towards the cause by donating raffle prizes.
