A woman was 'slashed' with a bottle and needed hospital treatment in an incident in Poundbury.

A man was also taken to hospital with a suspected broken nose.

Emergency services were called to an address in the Paceycombe Way area on Friday evening following reports that a woman had been slashed in the arm with a bottle.

Eye witnesses reported seeing two ambulances, at least four police cars and a lot of officers on foot in the area. Police also cordoned off the area.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "We were called at 7.26pm on Friday, April 28 to an address in the Paceycombe Way area of Poundbury in Dorchester following reports a woman had been slashed on the arm with a bottle.

"The woman aged in her 50s was taken to hospital for treatment to a cut. She has since been discharged.

"A man aged in his 40s was located a short time later close to the address with facial injuries. He was taken to hospital with a suspected broken nose.

"They were both known to each other.

"An investigation into the circumstances of the incident is underway. No arrests have been made."

Poundbury resident Cameron McKinnon said he had spotted a person lying on the floor who was then taken away on a stretcher.

He added that there was a heavy police presence in the area but was unsure about what had happened.

Rachel Bailey, 36, who has lived in Poundbury for the past two years, said: "It was a bit of a shock when I was driving home from work to come home to hordes of police.

"I had no idea what had happened but a large area was taped off so I knew it must have been something serious.

"There was also police collecting things in bags - evidence I assume.
"I hope the police get to the bottom of what happened."

Another Poundbury resident, who did not wish to be named, said the incident was the talk of the town the following day.

He said: "Everyone knew that something had happened - we just weren't sure what exactly.

"There was a lot of police in Poundbury on Friday, it was quite worrying really."
