A TEENAGER has denied hitting another youngster with a baseball bat.

Louis Nicholas Lockyear, 18, of Catherine's Well, Milton Abbas, denies grievous bodily harm with intent and a lesser charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Prosecutor Paul Hester told Dorchester Crown Court the attack happened on Saturday, July 16, 2006, outside a house party in Hambledon Gardens, Blandford.

The court heard at about 10.30pm a 16-year-old boy hosting the party got angry with teenagers in two cars outside his house playing loud music. When they refused to leave, he kicked one of the cars, damaging the wing mirror.

Mr Hester said Lockyear, one of the car's passengers, was out pacing around and was heard to call the boy an abusive name. After the boy kicked the car and it drove off, Lockyear was seen to run at the boy from behind brandishing a three-foot-long baseball bat, which he used to strike the boy in the back of the legs.

The court heard that the boy buckled to the ground and was lying there facing Lockyear when he raised the bat and aimed a second blow at his face, striking the boy in his right arm when he raised it to defend himself.

Mr Hester said the boy suffered a fracture of a major bone in his right arm and was taken to Dorset County Hospital. He had to wear a plaster cast.

The court heard Lockyear was tackled by three other boys from the party who took the bat, and he ran off.

Mr Hester said Lockyear was arrested in the early hours and told police he did not see a baseball bat and did not use it. He said he was a victim of violence himself because he was placed in a headlock and jumped on by a number of people. Mr Hester said Lockyear was interviewed again on September 8 and gave the same account.

The trial continues.
