Police are making renewed appeals for public cooperation as ongoing searches to locate two missing Dorset men have been unsuccessful.

However, another missing man, Barry Cullimore, from Swanage, was succesfully found safe and well yesterday evening in Cumbria.

Emergency services have been scouring the coastline late into the night as major searches were launched to find Mark Powell and Hugh Cox who have both been reported missing in the last week.

The first alarm was raised after Mark Powell from Dorchester went missing from an address in West End, Spetisbury, sometime between 10pm Sunday, June 18 and 9am on Monday, June 19.

The 53-year-old is believed to have cycled off on a ladies' red Raleigh bicycle without his phone or wallet. He is described as white, six ft tall, of stocky build, clean-shaven and with a tanned complexion.

On Tuesday night, a major search party was launched to find Hugh Cox, 61, who left his house in White Lackington, Dorchester, at 7am but failed to turn up to his job in Poole.

Chief Inspector Heather Dixey, of Dorset Police, said: "For Hugh not to turn up to work is completely out of character and we are concerned for his welfare as we believe he was very upset."

Mr Cox's abandoned blue Volkswagen Tiguan Estate was discovered at Ringstead Bay at 9.30pm that evening.

The police helicopter and the Dorset Search and Rescue team (DorSAR) searched the area until 3.20am the following morning.

The Coastguard helicopter was also deployed to assist in searching the Weymouth bay and harbour area.

Mr Cox is white and five ft six ins tall with grey hair. He wears half-moon glasses and is usually formally dressed in a suit or shirt and tie.

A third search was conducted around the Swanage area overnight on Thursday to locate Barry Cullimore, 53.

Before being found on the evening of Friday, June 23, Mr Cullimore was last seen leaving his work at Leeson House in Langton Matravers at around midday on Wednesday.

He returned home to Laycrafts Lane at some point and left his car, mobile phone and bicycle.

The NPAS police helicopter, HM Coastguard and volunteers from DorSAR all assisted in the overnight search.

Yesterday evening, a spokesperson for Dorset Police said:

"Officers searching for missing Swanage man Barry Cullimore are pleased to say he has been found safe and well.

"He was located earlier this evening, Friday 23 June 2017, in Cumbria.

We would like to thank everyone who shared our appeal and colleagues from Cumbria Police for their assistance."

Concern was raised about Mr Cullimore's welfare in October last year when he went missing for three days and was later located in the Aviemore area of Scotland.

Dorset Police have confirmed there have been no developments in their investigations regarding Mark Powell and Hugh Cox and searches will continue this morning.

Chief Inspector Dixey said: “We appreciate this is a difficult time for the families involved and Dorset Police is making every effort to try and locate these missing people.

“We greatly appreciate any assistance from the public and would urge anyone who knows where these people are to contact police immediately.”

Anyone with information should contact police immediately at dorset.police.uk or by calling 101.
