Drivers are being reminded of a major engineering project which will be affecting a main route in Weymouth.

Work by gas distribution company SGN was due to start in Westwey Road with temporary lights controlling traffic as from today.

The work to replace a gas pressure regulator is set to last 10 weeks.

A Dorset County Council spokesman said: “We’ve been working with SGN on this project to ensure the most suitable timing of this essential but disruptive work.

"Because of the trench needed it isn’t possible to work off-peak or just during nights, and night work itself presents particular hazards, so we have agreed for two-way lights to be in place for the duration of the pipe installation.

"SGN has agreed to work extended hours and seven days a week to complete the work as quick as possible.

“There will be delays on Westwey Road, and we’d advise drivers to allow extra time for their journeys or find an alternative route wherever possible.”
